New Release: SMDG–UN/CEFACT Transshipment White Paper

We are pleased to announce the release of the SMDG–UN/CEFACT White Paper on Transshipment, developed through a joint collaborative effort between the SMDG Transshipment Working Group and the UN/CEFACT community.

The paper introduces a new approach to ocean freight journey tracking, centered around the Unique Connection ID (UCID) — an identifier for connections between terminals. This concept shifts the focus from tracking vessels to tracking the journey itself, helping to improve efficiency, transparency, and data exchange in global trade.

This important milestone is the result of close collaboration between Dr. Hanane Becha, Sönke Witt, Alex Hartnoll, Thor Baunsgaard, and Michael Schroeder, with contributions from the wider SMDG and UN/CEFACT communities.

We invite all industry stakeholders to learn more about this proposal and its potential to support more efficient and data-driven global logistics.

New IFTMBF and IFTMBC MIGs for DG bookings

New IFTMBF and IFTMBC MIGs for DG bookings

SMDG has released the latest version of the EDIFACT Message Implementation Guidelines (MIGs) for the IFTMBF D.00B (Booking) and IFTMBC D.00B (Booking Confirmation) messages.

This IFTMBF message is used by a container operator to transmit a booking request for Dangerous Goods and Critical Cargo to a vessel operator. In response, the vessel operator will send an IFTMBC message as a Booking Confirmation back to the container operator.

These MIGs can be downloaded at EDIFACT MIGs – Critical and Dangerous Cargo.
