The SOLAS amendments, Chapter VI, Part A, Regulation 2, concerning Verified Gross Mass of containers (VGM) became effective in July 2016.
This regulation stipulates that the shipper is responsible to report the VGM to the carrier, and the carrier to the terminal. SMDG developed and published the new VERMAS message which serves the purpose of VGM reporting. In addition, the BAPLIE and the Container Messages were enhanced to enable VGM-related EDI transmissions.”
